Recipe for Hanukkah: Sufganiyot
These Sufganiyot (doughnuts) are quick and easy to make, they do not contain yeast or jam but they are delicious.
Ingredients
3 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 cups sour cream
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 cups oil for frying
Powdered sugar or sugar mixed with cinnamon to spread on top
1. In a large bowl combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract and sour cream. Mix until well blended.
2. Heat the oil in a frying pan over medium heat, until it reaches about 350 F.
3. Using two tablespoon drop batter into the hot oil. Fry the Sufganiyot on one side until golden, about 1 minute and turn them over and fry until golden on the other side, another minute.
4. Transfer the Sufganiyot to a plate with paper towels to absorb extra oil.
5. Spread with powdered sugar or regular sugar mixed with cinnamon.
