Israeli artists up for Bessie dance awards
The Bessies dance awards, considered the dance world's equivalent to the Oscars, are scheduled to be handed out in a ceremony in New York on October 15.

Israeli choreographer Emmanuel Gat was nominated for Outstanding Production of a work performed in a larger capacity venue of more than 400 seats, Gat's show "Preludes and Fugues," a reflection of Johann Sebastian Bach's work, was designed for the Ballet Du Grand Theatre de Geneve. In 2006 Gat won a Bessie for his "Spring Cult" and "Winter Journey" productions, which ran at Lincoln Center.

Israeli choreography team Lee Sher and Saar Harari are nominated in the category of Outstanding Emerging Choreographer for their joint creation, "Fame," which opened at the beginning of July at the Jacob's Pillow Festival and won critical accolades.
